this museum has a 800 year old swiss army knife

The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, UK has an ancient Roman swiss army knife dating to 200-300 AD  in their collection (they’re calling it a “compound utensil”).  My boss sent me this a few days ago and I thought it was a nerdy April fools joke but apparently it’s the real deal. Cool eh? You can [...]

It was “Premeditated”

Dear CWL,
I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but it was worth the wait. Thanks to sister Susie for showing me this truly great Washington Post Q&A with Richard Ellis, a marine conservationist at the American Museum of Natural History. Seriously, Washington Post, hire this guy for a weekly – nay, daily – [...]

Recessipedia

Check out this sweet wiki (i’m a little obsessed with the museum wiki trend right now). No, it’s not about recess, yes, it’s a recession wiki. It tracks the credit crisis from the earliest indicators in the beginning of 2007 until today. It’s easy to create an account for yourself and then complete a form [...]

Actien Handel at the Museum of American Finance

Hey guys- the exhibit that I have been helping to make is opening tomorrow evening. I thought I would give the MoAF a little shout out. Feel free to stop by! 5:30pm @ 48 Wall St

Blog of the Day: Australia in the ’80s

The Powerhouse museum is putting together an exhibit on Australia in the 1980’s and have created a blog to assist with their research. It’s pretty awesome. There are great music videos, tv shop clips, old video games, etc.  I can’t stop watching the Adam Ant video from the first post this morning. Get it HERE.

Herb & Dorothy

I really really want to see this movie about a librarian and a postal worker who collect millions of dollars worth of minimalist/conceptual art in their tiny one bedroom apartment. Looks adorable.
Read the New York Times review of it HERE, below is the trailer.

Music at the Whitney

The Whitney is hosting some fun bands in honor of their exhibit on Dan Graham. I thought you should know. I kind of love Vivian Girls- I might try and make it to that show.

brooklyn museum artifact replicated for true blood

Wow. Two of my favorite things in the world right now, the Brooklyn Museum and HBO’s new series True Blood, just blew my mind a lot. According to the Brooklyn Museum’s blog, the Bird Lady artifact featured in the first episode of season 2 is a replica of an artifact in the museum’s collections and [...]

King Tut at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum

I’m heading home this weekend for the 4th of July and am now kind of curious to see the King Tut exhibit that has been touring around the country for the past couple of years (though it conspicuously skipped New York) and opened on Saturday at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum.  It’s kind of neat that [...]

Yinka Shonibare exhibition opens at BK Museum today

I’m a big fan of Yinka Shonibare and am really really excited to see the exhibition that opens today. Some of the pieces are a bit more graphic than the one above but the victorian costumes made of Dutch wax prints are totally worth seeing. Apparently when Shonibare showed up for the official preview, he arrived with [...]
